Thanks so much to all of the parents for being so flexible about the date change of the Polar Express Party. With the crazy weather predictions the next couple of days, we were worried that there is a possibility that we would miss school and would miss our Polar Express Party. Anyway---our party was a huge success and the students had a wonderful day! We wore our pajamas, read the book, watched the movie, drank hot cocoa and ate cookies, and had other fun surprises.
Reminder: If we have a snow day, the specials schedule is moved back one day. For example-- if we are scheduled to have P.E. on Monday and we do not have school on Monday due to a snow day, we will have P.E. on Tuesday (or the next day that we are at school).
Thanks again for your flexibility!

The students will also be allowed to wear their pajamas to school. Please allow your child to wear their pajamas on this day. If you send your child with slippers, please also send a pair of shoes in their backpack to be worn outside or if we have P.E. on that day. Thanks.

Thanks to Parent Volunteers!!
We had a very successful and fun day at the pumpkin patch on Friday. One of the reasons that our day went so smoothly was due to our wonderful parent volunteers. Thanks so much to Trey's mom, Sarah's mom, Jagoldy's mom and dad, Aubrie's dad, Lizbeth's dad, Jersey's mom, and Mrs. Katie's mom for helping on our trip. Your help was truly appreciated. We received a compliment from the owners of Bi-Water that we had the most well behaved school of this season!! Thanks so much for your help!

Our t-shirts are in and we are excited about the field trip!!
Our t-shirts are in and they look great!! :) We will keep the shirts at school until Friday and then your child can put their t-shirt on when they get to school on Friday before the field trip.
Our field trip is only two days away and we are getting really excited. We talked all about what to expect on the field trip today. We talked about how we would see a corn maze, a spooky fun house, animals, and about how we would get to play on a playground. We also talked about how we were going to pick a pumpkin that was the perfect size for us and one that we can carry by ourselves. We also talked about how all of the pumpkins would probably be dirty because they were being picked from a pumpkin patch. The weather prediction for the field trip is a high of 69 and a low of 38 so please dress your child appropriately in long pants, a jacket, and tennis shoes.
If you have said that you would like to be a parent volunteer for the field trip, please make sure that you have received approval from the Fayette County Board of Education. We can't wait for you to come and help us. We will really need help when the children are picking pumpkins and putting them into bags with their names on them. If you are helping, please come to school at around 9:00. You can wait for us in the lobby. We will leave around 9:15 to ride the bus to Bi-Water. Thanks so much!
If you have not completed your child's permission slip, please do so!! Another one went home with your child today and we would hate for your child to have to stay behind! This is such a wonderful and fun opportunity for all of our students.

Class T-shirts
A form went home today about class t-shirts. Our t-shirts will be blue with white writing. They will have the teachers' names, the school name, and clip art of children. They will also have the phrase "All I really need to know I learned in Kindergarten." They will be $5.00. Please send your child's size and the money in an envelope with your child's name on the outside. The payment is due by Friday, October 1st. Thanks so much. Thank You
Thank you to everyone for attending Open House. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. I also hope that you had the opportunity to find out a little bit more about your child's classroom. I can't wait to see everyone again at your first conference.

Don't Forget!!!
Don't forget tomorrow, Monday, September 13th is Open House! I would love to see all of my kiddos and families there from 6:00 to 7:30. This will give you the opportunity to sign up for a conference, see your child's classroom and school, and it will give your child the chance to share with you things that they have been doing.
Homework packets will be starting next week. The first packet will go home on Monday. Please return the packet on Friday so your child can receive a treat.
Our first field trip will be in October. The date and place are still waiting for approval, but we hope to return to Bi-Water Farm in Georgetown. This is always a wonderful and fun experience for our students. If you would like to be a volunteer, you must complete the Volunteer form on the Fayette County Public Schools website and be approved. This usually takes several weeks so go ahead and begin now!
We will most likely be ordering class t-shirts before the field trip. The color, design, and cost are still being discussed and researched.

A Few Reminders and Updates
Just a reminder...there will be no school on Monday, September 6th due to Labor Day!!
We will begin sending a homework packet home soon. The homework packet will contain worksheets or activities for you to complete with your child nightly. It is okay for you to help your child with their homework, however we do want it to be their own work so if it's not perfect, it's okay. :) Homework is a way for you to see and help your child in areas that you may see that they are struggling. All of the items in the homework packet will be a review of things that have been taught.
On the front of the homework packet, there are suggestions and a schedule of when to complete the activities or worksheets. These are only suggestions-- for example, if you have extra time one night, feel free to complete two or three of the worksheets in one night. If there is a particular night when your child is tired or doesn't want to do homework, you can take that night off. Just make sure that your child's packet is returned completed to school on Friday so they can receive a treat.

Smaller Class Sizes!!
The Kindergarten would like to welcome Ms. McGrew!! Due to our high class sizes (34 students in each class) we were given a fourth Kindergarten teacher from the board of education. She will begin teaching with her new class on Monday, August 23rd. I am excited that all students will receive more one on one support due to the smaller class sizes.
We will also begin sending home the behavior charts on Monday which will allow you as the parent to know how many (if any) reteaches your child receives throughout the day. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to email me --katie.snodgrass@fayette.kyschools.us
